Before reading this story, its title reminded me immediately of another text that I had read and studied at school many years ago : The Picture of Dorian Gray, written by Oscar Wilde. The similarity ob both stories as to their astounding ending struck me. It made me suspect whether Oscar Wilde was inspired or not by the story written 40 years in the past by Edgar Allan Poe : The Oval Portrait !! Anyway, whatever the reality, I read this Oval Portrait with great interest.
