American writer, poet but also litterary critic and editor, Edgar Poe is well known for his short stories and his tales of mystery and macabre.

We'll discuss about the short story "the Oval Portrait" a tragic love story, or any other you'd like to comment.

Due to social distancing we'll meet in visio conference but it will be good to catch up after this lockdown period.

Before reading this story, its title reminded me immediately of another text that I had read and studied at school many years ago : The Picture of Dorian Gray, written by Oscar Wilde. The similarity ob both stories as to their astounding ending struck me. It made me suspect whether Oscar Wilde was inspired or not by the story written 40 years in the past by Edgar Allan Poe : The Oval Portrait !! Anyway, whatever the reality, I read this Oval Portrait with great interest.


I like the precise description of the chateau itself, the numerous details of the room where he saw the portrait, and finally his emotion at its discovery. Then, when he read the story …
